When to Find a Chiropractor

September 4, 2008

The services of a chiropractor are very useful for spinal cord injuries and other disruptions to the human body. Choosing the right one requires a lot of research and careful comparisons.

Spinal cord injuries and disruptions on the balance of our bodies require the expertise of a chiropractor. Although many cringe at the thought of having their spine manipulated, it will only be initially uncomfortable but the feeling of discomfort will cease as you go along the procedure. With spinal manipulation, it can bring back the balance that was lost, easing the feeling of pain and exacerbating.

Aside from spinal manipulation, a chiropractor also addresses other aspects that help heal the body. This would include proper nutrition, exercise, and how to have a healthy emotional as well as positive environment. Their goal is to minimize the pain you are feeling and to help you improve your way of life. They are well trained like doctors. They are also qualified in evaluating and diagnosing conditions, thus prescribing the necessary treatment procedure and medications. For cases where in the condition is beyond their expertise, they will recommend you to a specialist or general practitioner.

Here are some pointers on what a chiropractor can do to address your condition:

1. Chiropractors can treat patients who had surgery for certain conditions. They will provide post-op advice, exercise, and therapy.

2. Aside from adjusting the bones at your back portion, they can also adjust the bones of the neck. Going to a skilled and licensed chiropractor will guarantee safety of the treatment.

3. Treatment and advice on how to care for your joints are also given. This is especially helpful for those who have been under a lot of stress, causing the joints to degenerate. Chiropractors will then aim to restore the balance of the surrounding structures of the joint so as to prevent further damage. Later on, they will provide joint function maintenance procedures via an exercise regimen.

4. For those who are diagnosed with osteoporosis, chiropractors have treatment procedures for you as well, helping you avoid accidents that can fracture your bones. Thus, a chiropractor will help maintain the mobility in your joints and improve its balance, minimizing the incidence of falling and preventing a fracture.

5. Once the problem is resolved, the work of a chiropractor does not end there. They provide you with information on how to prevent the recurrence of your injuries. They will also provide you with pointers on how to maintain proper body mechanics, recommending a good workout so as to keep your body in shape. Thus, they will give you pointers on how to maintain a well balanced diet and a modified lifestyle.

When we are feeling pain, it is a sign that there is something wrong with our body. Many people will then seek the help of a chiropractor. A chiropractor is a skilled individual that treats people with mechanical disorders, particularly on their muscles and bones. This is also for people who experienced an impact on the other systems such as the nervous system, impairing their normal way of living. Hence, they provide care through procedures that does not include the use of medications or surgery.

A chiropractor will merely try to find the source of this pain and correct it with the use of natural healing abilities of our body. They can cure other ailments such as infections, hypertension, and arthritis through a holistic approach, making the body reach a balanced state.

Chiropractors believe that the systems in our body are all inter-related and maintain a harmonious relationship. Their practice emphasize on manual therapy and the manipulation of the soft tissues and joints. They combine other alternative medicine techniques such as acupuncture, physiotherapy, massage, and nutrition in treating muscular, neurological, and vascular problems.

Going through years of study, chiropractors also underwent two board exams, similar to doctors. After passing these board exams, they still continue to study so as to obtain more educational credits. Hence, chiropractors undergo intensive training so they are capable of more than just spinal manipulation. Anyone who is experiencing pain can consult them, even patients as young as a newborn baby, a pregnant woman, and an old person experiencing arthritis.

Once you ask yourself if you need to consult a chiropractor, it would mean that you are also into the natural ways of healing, avoiding the need for surgery and drugs.

Acne - The Truth

September 3, 2008

Acne goes by many names — zits, pimples, whiteheads, blackheads. One thing they all have in common is that they are never welcomed by anyone, particularly by teenagers.

Unfortunately, acne is a part of life; it’s a common ailment that affects millions of people in the world. It’s most common among adolescents, and this skin condition makes life all the more difficult for teenagers. It’s bad enough that teens have to deal with facial hair, bodily changes and raging hormones; acne just makes things even worse. Why in the world is there such a thing?

Acne vulgaris is the name used to refer to this common problem and it is believed to be caused by a number of things. In male teenagers, it is caused by high levels of testosterone, the male hormone. Among females, it can be the result of the hormonal imbalance due to the menstrual cycle.

Then there are the other changes occurring in the body of an individual going through puberty. However, acne is mainly caused by bacteria on the skin that react with the oils, dirt and dead skin cells that clog the pores.

Other factors can lead to acne or make the condition much worse. For instance, too much chlorine exposure is responsible for a long lasting type of the condition. Anabolic steroids have also been found to trigger this skin condition.

In the past, many people believed that poor hygiene was the cause. This was the predominant belief which caused many teenagers to scrub their faces raw to be rid of the zits and blackheads. Little did they know that the frequent cleaning and vigorous scrubbing only made their problem worse.

Similarly, people believed that certain foods were responsible. For instance, chocolate and fried foods were believed to trigger acne. This belief stemmed from the fact that candy bars, chocolates, French fries, hamburgers, fish and chips, tator tots, and fried chicken were the staple foods of teenagers. And since the condition was very prevalent among teenagers, it was natural for people to link it to certain foods, although no medical or scientific connection has ever been established.

The truth is that acne is a part of growing up, and there are only very few people who manage to go through puberty without a zit. A lot of those who develop the condition during puberty outgrow it. It just disappears. In fact, most people no longer have to deal with it once they enter into their twenties. There are, however, those whose problem doesn’t leave them even after the adolescent stage.

There are two categories:inflamed acne and non-inflamed acne. Blackheads and whiteheads fall under the non-inflamed category. Whiteheads are clogged follicles made up of dead skin cells plugging the pores. Blackheads are essentially like whiteheads, only they are clogged follicles that have become oxidized, hence the reason they are dark in color. Contrary to what many believe, blackheads do not come from dirt.

Zits or pimples fall under the inflamed category. They are typically reddish and look swollen or inflamed. Red pimples are the most common; larger cysts are a cause for concern. Pimples are actually whiteheads that failed to develop into blackheads. Instead of the pores becoming plugged, the pore walls break down and turn into a repository for oil, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria. White blood cells start fighting the infection in the pore walls, resulting in the formation of pus.

The pimples can be rather painful, but it is the larger cysts that should be watched closely;if they keep coming back, medical attention may be needed.

As many misconceptions as there are about the causes of acne, there is just as many misconceptions about its cure. For instance, many people believe that exposing skin to the sun will cure the problem. Not true. Sure, it may look like it disappeared, but it’s still there; the skin only got darker. What is sure, though, is that too much sun exposure causes wrinkles and increases one’s risk of developing skin cancer.

Thanks to research and numerous clinical studies, there are now many scientifically proven acne treatments, many of them available over the counter and as prescription medications. There are also natural acne remedies.

It’s a good idea, however, for anyone with the condition to talk to a medical professional before trying out any kind of treatment.

Get a Brighter Smile With Teeth Whitening

September 1, 2008

Cosmetic procedures come in all shapes and sizes today, and can affect just about any feature that you would like to improve upon. Cosmetic dentistry addresses a whole host of issues involving the teeth, and ranges from straightening a crooked line of teeth to giving those pearly whites a spit and polish they will not soon forget. There is nothing more beautiful than a healthy shiny smile, and the good news is that there are plenty of things you can do to ensure you are putting your best smile forward every single day.

Teeth whitening has made tremendous strides since it was originally introduced in dentists’ offices, and today these treatments can be found for every preference and budget. Whether you are looking for a professional treatment from your dentist or prefer to handle the process in the privacy of your home, there is a whitening system that will provide the results you are hoping for.

Whitening vs. Bleaching

Before you run out to the drugstore to pick up your own teeth whitening kit or make an appointment with your dentist to discuss your options, there are a few things to know about the whitening process. First, there is a difference between products that claim to bleach the teeth and those that actually whiten them. Bleaching is the term allowed by the FDA to describe the process of whitening the teeth beyond their original color. The bleaches that are typically used in these products include hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

Whitening is a process that will restore teeth to their original color by cleaning the surface of debris and staining. This means that any product that effectively cleans the teeth can be referred to as a teeth whitener. However, some bleaching products may also refer to themselves as “whitening” formulas because the term is more appealing to consumers.

Why do Teeth Stain?

There are many factors that can contribute to yellowing teeth. Age and genetics are two factors that you cannot control but can make a big difference in how white your teeth remain. Other contributors to a less brilliant smile may be smoking, diet, medication and trauma to the mouth. Both extrinsic stains (those that appear on the surface of the teeth) and intrinsic stains that form on the teeth’s interior can be good candidates for the right teeth whitening system.

Teeth whitening can be done at home with kits that can be purchased from the drugstore or in a dentist’s office. More stubborn stains may require the help of your dentist to get rid of them, while lighter surface stains may respond quite nicely with a home treatment. The cost between professional and take home treatments can vary considerably, so you want to weigh your choice somewhat carefully.

The best part of teeth whitening is that it works. Whether you choose to whiten at home or head to your dentist’s office for a professional treatment, these solutions can bring back the whiter, brighter smile of your youth. If teeth whitening is a process you are interested in, talk to your dentist about your choices today.

The Cost Of A Surrogate Mother Expenses Vary

August 28, 2008

Something that most people want to become at some point in their lives is a parent. There’s no more challenging or rewarding job, that’s for sure. Plus, it’s more than that, it’s about celebrating the love between a couple by creating a new life. Unfortunately, some people cannot do that naturally.

You and your husband cannot conceive naturally, and thus are trying to figure out the cost of surrogate mother expenses. Yes, you’ve thought about in-vitro, but you’ve been informed by your doctors that the chances of conceiving through that method are rather slim. Plus, there’s an additional chance that you’d have multiples, and you would like to have just one child at a time, thank you very much.

So, now you’ve decided that the best thing to do would be to hire a surrogate. But before you get make any definite decisions, you want to know who’s available for such a task, and if the cost of surrogate mother expenses is something that you can really afford.

First of all, you check on your health plan. It isn’t the best health plan in the world, but at least your work offers you one that can marginally keep up with the other health plans available. You want to find out if the health plan will cover any or (preferably) all of the cost of surrogate mother expenses. You find out that yes, it will cover something, but just some. You agree that something is indeed better than nothing.

Then it’s time to do some more research. You find out that surrogate mothers in your area are actually rather hard to find, so you might have to find one in another part of the country. This, of course, will incur additional travel expenses. The next step is finding a list of suitable candidates, which your health care plan has provided.

You don’t want just any uterus. This is your biological baby that is being harvested in another woman after all! You want to make sure that whoever does this will be responsible, and will take care of herself throughout the pregnancy. Also, it should be a person that you and your husband get along with, since there should be frequent communication.

After reviewing the list over and over again, you and your husband have narrowed the list down to two candidates. You’re provided with their contact information, and call each one in turn. The first one seems nice, but a bit flaky. You’re concerned that she might not be the right fit as a result. It’s a good thing that you did have some reservations, because the second candidate was the perfect fit.

She lives about a hundred miles away, but at least you won’t have to take a plane to reach her. When you meet her, she allays all of your fears. Here’s a responsible woman! Also, the cost will be about the same as a new car. Luckily, you have a little nest egg that you can use for this purpose, and what an important purpose it is!

The Pros and Cons of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery

August 28, 2008

You’ve always been secure with the way you look, except for one thing: Your nose. Indeed, your nose has been the subject of frequent ridicule by your peers for as long as you can remember. Of course, now that you’re an adult the comments don’t really happen unless someone is drunk, but you’re still wondering if, perhaps, a change can’t be made.

Specifically, you’re thinking about getting cosmetic plastic surgery on your nose. You’ve decided that your ideal nose would be half the size of your current one, and slimmer too – no more of that bulbous stuff. Yes, each time you look in the mirror, the idea of getting cosmetic plastic surgery seems more and more enticing.

Of course, you’re not one to just go right ahead and choose anyone for the cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. You pour over surgeon directories, ask lots of questions, and finally find one that is both reputable and offers reasonable costs. The benefits that you will be getting from the surgery are obvious. After all, look at what a little cosmetic plastic surgery did for Ashlee Simpson’s nose!

You just can’t wait to be able to walk into a room, any room (you’re not picky) and have people admire your nose. You can’t wait to see the looks on people’s faces when you reveal your new look! As excited as you are, there are some aspects that you’re not too excited about at all.

First of all, you’re going to have to recuperate for a couple of weeks. You can’t imagine walking around with that large bandage over your nose (note to self: remember to practice breathing through your mouth) so unless you start wearing a suspiciously large face mask, then it’s going to be just you and your cat in your apartment for a while.

Then, images of Morgan Fairchild and Michael Jackson flash through your head. Morgan Fairchild ended up with a new nose, but that new nose was entirely too small for her face, and she looks silly. Then, Michael Jackson’s nose is dissolving an only held together with some sort of putty. You’d rather have a big nose than no nose at all!

You need to comfort yourself by thinking about the fact that Morgan Fairchild had her plastic surgery done a hundred years ago, when techniques were still being developed. As for Michael Jackson, well, he’s obviously had more than a couple surgeries on that nose of his.

Nevertheless, you still need to see your chosen surgeon’s portfolio. You hurriedly log onto his website, and see the many noses he has transformed. Oh, look at that woman’s nose! It was completely crooked before, and had a big wart on it to boot! You really like her new nose, it looks very natural. Then, of course, there’s the guy who had one of those severely upturned noses. You think his new nose looks quite distinguished. You realize that any cosmetic procedure has its pros and cons, but as long as you have a professional surgeon who knows noses, then you’re all set.

Yes, Male Breast Reduction Surgery Does Happen

August 28, 2008

You’ve been fat for as long as you can remember. It’s just who you are. Your family is fat, and you figure that you’re fat because of genetics, not diet. Well, it doesn’t help that you eat at least three cheeseburgers everyday, but that’s beside the point.

So, now you’re thinking about possibly getting male breast reduction surgery as part of your plan to combat fat. You heard a commercial for male breast reduction surgery on the radio while you were driving (slowly, because your little car really can’t take your immense weight) to work.

You have to admit, you never thought that male breast reduction surgery was even a possibility. You had always thought that you would have to suffer with your man boobs and wear extra, extra, infinitely extra, large shirts for the rest of your life. The prospect of male breast reduction surgery is indeed an exciting one to you.

Another thing that you need to think about is whether or not you really need the male breast reduction surgery. Usually, this kind of surgery is reserved for men who have a hormonal disorder, or have found that diet and exercise doesn’t work at all for them.

So, the next thing that you need to do is some research. You need to know what the procedure entails, how much it will cost, and whether or not you’re physically ready for it. This issue of male breasts is usually not caused by just excess fat having developed in your breasts, it also has to do with excess tissue development.

Also, another issue is finding the right surgeon for this procedure. There are many surgeons out there that say they can do this kind of procedure, but it is important that the surgeon you choose is certified and known for his excellent work.

However, since your excess weight currently prohibits you from having the procedure done, you will first have to go to the gym. It’s one thing to work out, but it’s quite another to have the lasting motivation. If you think that you have a problem with motivation, consider hiring a personal trainer.

Also, you’re going to have to quit smoking. There’s no way that any reputable surgeon would perform this procedure on you if you’re a smoker. So, say goodbye to your cigarettes, since they would’ve ended up killing you anyway.

Another thing you’re going to have to work on is your modesty issue. If you want a sex life at some point, you’re going to have to undress, and you’ll also have to undress at your consultation. So, you might as well start getting used to undressing in public at the men’s locker room. Ignore any nasty comments, people who make fun of others are losers anyway.

Basically, it all comes down to seeing what you can achieve on your own beforehand, and then seeing if you’ll need the surgery afterward, because you might not, thereby saving yourself some money. Think of yourself as Rocky in training, because you can reach your goals with persistence!

How to Find the Wrong Plastic Surgeon

August 28, 2008

Sure, everyone wonders what they’d look like if they were perfect. However, some people, in their quest for perfection, end up looking perfectly wrong. You’re someone who’s looking to fix something about your appearance, and you had better sure that you don’t make the same mistake twice.

Specifically, you need a plastic surgeon who will fix what a previous plastic surgeon did wrong. You admit, you were na

A Celebrity Who Has Definitely Used a Cosmetic Dermatologist

August 28, 2008

Many people are under the misconception that celebrities are superhuman. Well, you can thank their publicists for that, because they’re actually just people with the same hang-ups as anyone. Shocking, isn’t it? There’s no one more self-conscious, however, than Victoria Beckham.

Just take a look at before and after photos of her face, and it is obvious that a cosmetic dermatologist has helped her out a lot. Photos as recent as just a couple of years ago show that she’s been hiding some notable acne pustules beneath layers of makeup. Now if you were to look at her, you’d see that while she still wears a lot of makeup, she’s also got much clearer skin. Yes, some people grow out of their bad complexions, but Victoria, who clearly was one the poster girl for adult acne, seemed to have her face clear up overnight. She obviously must have an excellent cosmetic dermatologist.

So, what kinds of procedures could the cosmetic dermatologist have done to bring about such glowing results? Well, the first thing he probably tried was various kinds of laser treatments, which eradicate skin imperfections as well as increase blood flow to the skin. Also, there’s a chance he might have moved on to a chemical peel, in which the top layer of the skin is removed.

However, it’s important to mention that technology plays a big role in a celebrity’s appearance. You might marvel at the magazine layouts depicting a celebrity with flawless skin, but in reality their zits have simply just been edited out.

One celebrity who is clearly in need of a cosmetic dermatologist is Cameron Diaz. It’s tiring looking at paparazzi photos of her (close-ups at that) which depict a pizza face that rivals any pubescent teenager’s. She’s an attractive woman otherwise, and she certainly has the money, so why the heck doesn’t she do something about her complexion?

It really is quite amazing the lengths that celebrities will go to in order to preserve their looks. In fact, some celebrities are better known for the work they’ve had done to themselves, rather than the acting work they’ve done!

However, to have a facial cosmetic procedure done on the face is actually very convenient. In fact, dermatologists often try to make the procedure a relaxing experience, as if the celebrity was going to a spa. Speaking of spas, they also often offer some of the same procedures that a dermatologist would. The procedures themselves don’t take a long time, and the recovery time is minimal. This is the perfect kind of procedure to fit into a very busy schedule. Also, the side effects are generally just as minimal, with slight swelling or redness being the most common.

Of course, these kinds of procedures aren’t restricted to only celebrities. Any average person can have them done, just as long as they have the financial means. Unfortunately, medical coverage doesn’t cover cosmetic procedures, so if you’re an everyday person hoping to get one of these procedures done, be prepared to shell out at least a few hundred dollars.

Dental Lead Aprons- Dentist X-Ray Radiation Protection Tools

August 28, 2008

Dental lead aprons are used in dentist offices, where x-rays of the oral region are frequently taken, to protect the body from harmful radiation exposure. Dental x-rays are valuable medical imaging tools for diagnosing and monitoring conditions of the mouth that may require treatment; dentists require regular x-ray examinations at set intervals. Among the conditions that can be detected by dental x-rays are periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay between teeth, oral tumors, and other oral abnormalities that may pose a threat to a patient’s health. Despite these obvious benefits of x-rays, they can also have harmful physical effects, if the proper patient protection from dental x-rays is not implemented. Highly repeated or extended exposure to x-ray radiation is known to lead to cancer and other dangerous health conditions. Lead dental x-ray aprons can help to reduce the risks of dental x-ray procedures and protect both patients and dental technicians from x-ray radiation exposure.

Dental technologist aprons and dental patient aprons are designed to absorb the majority of the electromagnetic radiation waves that are scattered after an x-ray wave is fired. Dental radiation safety products prevent harmful radiation from penetrating the patient’s or technician’s bodies and from causing unwanted side effects. When using dental x-ray ponchos, both patients and medical personnel alike can have the peace of mind knowing that quality, valuable dental medical images can be obtained while still maintaining a protected, safe medical environment.

Many different variations of dental radiation aprons exist in different sizes and styles to accommodate specific dental office needs. Standard features on x-ray dentist aprons include non-slip backing that ensures secure fit and sizes for both children and adults. No matter the patient size, a dental patient apron exists that can fit the patient comfortably and securely. Dental patient aprons and dental technologist aprons have Velcro closure straps, which allow for a quick and easy application, so that the apron wraps around the entire body for optimum protection during panoramic dental x-ray examinations. Custom colors and embroidery options are common features for x-ray dentist aprons. These features are offered as embellishments to dental x-ray ponchos to prevent loss and increase organization in the office. Often times pediatric dentists will order their aprons in “kid friendly” patterns to attempt to reduce the anxiety of children visiting the dentist.

Some dental radiation safety aprons are applied easily over the head and do not need additional ties or straps to be held in place. The no-slip backing on this type of patient apron clings to the patient to help keep the apron firmly in position. A .3 millimeter lead thickness is provided in order to give maximum patient protection from harmful radiation.

In dental office settings, it is important for patients and technicians to utilize dental x-ray aprons to protect themselves from the harmful effects that electromagnetic radiation scatter waves can have on the body. Since x-rays in the dental setting are a frequent and regular occurrence, it is especially vital that technician and patient protection from dental x-rays is observed. Dental radiation safety products can greatly reduce the risk of negative effects of dental x-rays. Radio-opaque protective vests are utilized in dental offices around the country and should be a standard component to any dental office.

As far as the official stand of the American Dental Association, “the use of a lead apron is considered good practice regardless of the amount of x-rays used.”
